Closure of Central Coast Council’s Performance Improvement Order
I am pleased to share that the Minister for Local Government, the Hon. Ron Hoenig MP has closed the Performance Improvement Order (PIO) issued to Central Coast Council under section 438A of the Local Government Act 1993 on 19 September 2024. This marks an important milestone for Council, with the PIO officially closed on 12 May 2026.
Over the past two years, Council has worked to address the requirements set out in the PIO. Our final compliance report was submitted on 17 September 2025, demonstrating that all mandated actions had been completed in full. This outcome reflects the sustained effort, collaboration, and commitment of Council’s leadership team, Council Officers, and Councillors.
The PIO was originally issued in response to concerns regarding Council’s financial sustainability, governance, and decision‑making processes. Focusing on these issues has been key to meeting all our compliance requirements.
The closure of the PIO represents a significant step forward for Council. It acknowledges the progress we have made and reinforces our commitment to responsible financial management, sound governance, and effective service delivery.
Central Coast Council also marked another milestone on 12 May 2026, celebrating ten years since its establishment through amalgamation. This anniversary highlights how far the organisation has come and what has been achieved throughout the PIO process.
The Office of Local Government (OLG) will continue to monitor our progress as part of its responsibilities. We welcome this continued engagement as we remain focused on delivering strong outcomes for the Central Coast community.
